Water Whetter is a fine product but really shouldn't be necisary if the cooling system is in good order. It's about time to have the coolant replaced again (I think Saab recommends 2 years and it's not a bad idea since the heater cores can be troublesome.) I recommend having the system thoroughly back flushed and replacing the thermostat with a Saab 82 degree unit. People sometimes have problems with aftermarket units so make sure it's a proper Saab thermo. The directions linked below are really excelent. You can do the whole job yourself cheaply, but I understand it's slightly trickier on the 2.3L engines. I beleive you can also replace the fan switch with an 82 degree unit, but I'm not familiar on how to do this with the 2.3L. I think once you replace the thermo and have the system flush you'll be cruising cool again.

As for the timing chain, I wouldn't worry about it. It should last at least double the miles you have on the car now. The 2.0L engine can go well over 200k on the original and the 2.3L engines aren't bad either, though the balance shafts and such aparently wear things out a bit sooner. You'll notice a "rattling" sort of sound with the hood up coming from the US passenger side of the engine long before there are any problems.

Let us know how the cooling system works out.
