One Saab manual states IAC (Idle Air Control), another calls it the AIC (Automatic Idle Control), whatever you want to call it it is the gizmo that bleeds air acrosss the throttle body butterfly looking like an air leak to the engine. Haveen't experienced but one with this broad swings - usually very low to around 15-1700 rpm. 25oo would indicate you may possibly also have other vacuum hose leaks behind the butterfly on the injector side of the manifold. Remove the IAC valve and clean it of as much of the oil and crud residue until the flap moves freely. While off the car inspect all hoses for deterioration/cracks etc. Inspect the throttle body by removing the rubber tube look to see the flap is almost fully closing should be a just a few thou gap at bottom (it is best inspected off the car with a light). Has any one tried to adjust your butterfly safety stop screw? There are several thing in play here one is if you have a fault in the Fuel injection the IAC will set the idle at 1200-1500 rpm (known as Limp Mode)
lets check the valve first to see if it is functioning
depending on your fuel injection system different values are used
the 2.2 unit has 3 pins as does the 2.4.2, The 2.4 and 2.4.1 has only two pins. the 88 B-202 engine could have either the 2.2 or the 2.4 injection system. so for 2.2-- between pins 1 and 2 and 2 and 3 the value should be 15-25 ohms (Nominal is 20). (nothing between 1 and 3) for the 2.4 between pins 1 and 2 you should measure 2-12 ohms(Nominal is 7). on the 2.2 FI one needs also an ISAT to set the pulse ratio to 50/50 for the Idle to stabilize between 800-900 rrpm. That needs doing only if the engine is running correctly but the speed is off. clen thing up ,look around andthake the measurements and put back together and let us know results. AMM usually manifests failure with a different result. hope this helps
