tensioner may need attention/replacement. Do you know what flat lifters sound like - could have been flat lifters. Do you use synthetic oil in your engine? Synthetic is great oil but does not like to be left idle for long periods in a pressure siutuation like cam followers or the chain rollers under load. Also it tends to drain from vertical surfaces so your chain followers may have been a little dry. Suggest you run for a couple of days and listen again if it sounds normal, it probably is. If it continues to rattle replace the tensioner.
