it is possible you were at the ragged edge of fuel cut off because of excessive boost and your old relief valve spring was weak enough to allow some relief(leakage). When you slam it hard there is a momentary overshoot in boost but when you approach max boost normally no overshoot occurs. On some cars the tolerance between max boost and boost limitation is very close. That could be your problem. If some one has screwed with the turbo control rod this can happen.
If the car is smooth and reaches max boost otherwise chances are you are boosting too high and the fuel cutoff is coming into play. Could be something else but I would first look at boost level. if fuel cutoff has occurred you will have a stored code: -excess boost-fuel.
