'89 9KS Auto w/ACC 1...
The story so far...
~ A couple weeks ago, my blower started acting erratic. I had to put it on high to get it to kick in, then it ran fine on auto. Couple days of this and the fan controller fries, runs on high only.
~ I get a new fan speed controller and install it. Everything is great... for about 24 hours. Then it starts doing the same thing (running erraticly). I take a 300 mile trip and the controller slowly fries itself again. First low speed goes, then medium. Yesterday when I started it, the blower kicked on high as expected, then died with a pop and a slight electrical burn smell.
~ I run all the tests from Townsand ACC folder. All fuses and fuse connectors are good. Battery is holding 12V, charging at 13.4V. Check the voltage on the various fan speeds at the ACC Unit and at the connector to the Fan Controller. They match and are pretty close to Townsand specs (low is .75V instead of .8V, medium is 1.85V instead of 2V, high is 5V - right on). Jumped the power to the fan at the Fan Controller. Fan runs, so it's not the motor. With the power jumped, the fan gets steady voltage. The blower housing and evaperator housing look pretty new (at least a lot newer than the other components).
Everything points to the Fan Controller, but something else MUST be causing it to fry, because I've fried two of them in a week.
Any Suggestions??? Any and all appreciated!
Skippy
