Ari,
I'v been talking to a Bosch tech and he told me to snip the field coil wire and if the light went out that the alternator was bad and thats what happened I snipped the thin wire mine is grey/violot and the light did go out,
I took the alternator that I just installed down to the local flaps to see if the alternator really was shot the kid saied that the alternator was gettin like 13.0V I did look but I don't think he did it rite so I'm going to go to a local guy who rebuilt my Audi alternator and see what he saies.
One question though from what you saied,
When I was replacin the original alternator I did find that the field wire was'nt hooked to the back of the alternator the wire was frayed off but before I put the new(rebuilt) alternator in I reconnected the field wire with a new connector and reatatched it the back of the alternator. Should I have connected that wire or doe's it go somewere else I'm not to clear on what you are saien about that wire.
Yes the alternator came with a voltage regulator
the only thing I took off the old alternator and put on the new was the diod a small black plastic box with a thin black wire I connected the wire to the spade on the back of the alternator and screwed the black box with the screw hole provided.
The pully looked like it was spinnin fine I replaced the serpinten belt as well and tentioned the belt within spec I have the Haynes manuel for this car Bentley does'nt make a manuel for this car and the only other alternative is the dealer so the Haynes is'nt that indepth but I do work on Audi's so I'm pritty handy with tools.
Any aditional help though would be great.
Thanks
Ron
