...Shell took a beating (unfairly) from that one in the press. It's a long time ago now, and I can't remember the details, but I'll ask dad about it. He was a press officer at the time...
General concensus is that Shell still provide the highest quality and most advanced additives of any oil firm. Yes, I am biased. Plus I used to like all the free glasses, and mince pies at christmas, with shell points....
Incidentally, all forecourt super is only 97 RON in the UK - including Shell. I run mine on 95, with no problems - still boost beyond the red all the time, and holding. Tried super a couple a few times, and it actually had a NEGATIVE effect on my petrol consumption. Explain that one!?
