Yes, the car is manual transmission and it did not really die, it just stopped going forward. It continued to idle, but when I put my foot on the accelerator, in gear, it did not go forward. Mind you, after I shut it off and tried it again, it tried to start and turned over easily but didn't run. I didn't want to mess with it so I just shut it off and had it towed. The mechanic said it needs a new air flow meter (I don't know what that is, but in Canada it costs about $500 after market, I was told), but he didn't think that it explained the smoke and burning smell. Any ideas? Any guesses? The car has 230,000 km; it has virtually no rust, and had the engine rebuilt about 2 years ago when the cam chain broke. Until Friday it ran flawlessly, a joy to drive, and very responsive... like no other car I have ever driven, even But the A/C has been a constant problem, and it is a 1991. Thanks again.
