Make sure you clean the flywheel though, if it's rusty (likely if it hasn't been timed lately), you'll have a devil of a time reading the numbers on it. The inspection hole you look into is pretty much straight down from the coolant gauge sender, which is of course on the right side of the engine towards the rear, only thing except the distributor with a wire coming from it in that vicinity.

I've got my timing set at 20 degrees BTDC now (but with a modified vacuum advance/boost retard unit on the distributor for similar retard under boost), and the car feels much much peppier off the line and at low boost/low rpm, say under 2800 rpm.

Agree with Justin about the boost though. Stock boost is 11 psi, pretty good. How much you can safely run depends on many factors - how much extra fuel you can put in or cooling you can affect (better intercooler or water injection), how much you're willing to be frustrated when things don't go right, how much you like tweaking your car, how much $$$ you have, etc, etc..
