My '91 9KT ran four sets of 205-55-16's on stock Aero rims and I never had a rubbing problem. Others haven't been that lucky, and for that I'd say either buy 205-50's or roll the dice. Unfortunately, 205-50's are few and far between compared to the alternative, which limits your choices.
At least one person reporting a rubbing problem with 205-55-16's claimed that his rubbed on a protruding fender-well bolt. If so, perhaps filing off the bold head or replacing it with a less-protruding round-head bold might be the ticket. Maybe someone who has had the problem might elaborate a bit more on the details. Maybe a fix is an easy one.
FWIW, my present '95 Aero has 205-55-16's and they also roll without any issues, but this is the stock size for the car.
