Just spent the first weekend on the road with the "new" 1997 9000 CS and there are a few minor things to work on.
Brakes: Low speed thrumming on brake application will dealt with by replacing all four discs and installing PDR Delux pads next week. Discs were rusted from sitting on the dealer lot and rears apparantly went metal to metal with prior owner, so they are noisy. Anybody recommend a switch to teflon/stainless brake lines to improve pedal feel? If so, where is the best place to get them?
Noted that rear axle had very heavy surface rust and car had new cat back factory exhaust at 48,000 miles; this normal? Otherise underside of car looked new. My 900S axle looks near new under there in comparison, and its original exhaust lasted 100,000 miles. Strange?
Tires: Car got new Michelins MXV4 Greens yesterday, recommended by dealer as Pilots were an older design; I have had the MXV4 tires on my 900 for years and they are fine for my highway and winter use. I'm looking for 16 inch CSE wheels by spring for more aggressive summer rubber.
Both tires and brakes were used to negotiate the dealer down to an acceptable price, so these purchases were anticipated.
Radio: The only other "defect" is a high pitched whine/clicking from the left rear speaker on start up. It goes away with a click after about two minutes as something must warm up or shut off, but I don't know what it is. Also the car has a casette, how hard is it to score a factory CD unit that will slide right in? Is the CS wired for the trunk mounted CD changer as found in the CSE?
Any recommendations on oil for the manual transmission? I switch over to Mobil 1 in the engine next week.
Thanks to all from a graduate of the 900 board. Looking forward to your advice.
