To try and answer a few of your questions:

1) I built a set of SS braided lines and would highly recommend them on the 9K. Great brake feel and a real (and I do mean real) firm pedal. Suggest one of the advertised vendors as a source (I just happen to be building a set of lines for our race car and had the materials on hand).

2) I have a lot of rust on my axle and I chalked this up to living on the coast as my '86 9K and earlier 99s I had living inland never had a problem. I wire-brushed the rust and used a good anti-rust gloss paint on it and it seems to be holding up now that I live in Ontario.

3) I have Michelins on my '96 and they are OK for holding up, being fairly quiet on the road and amazingly decent in the snow. They pretty much suck in the wet and under acceleration or cornering on cold, dry pavement. On warm pavement, pretty much non-descript. Next time, I am going to do something more aggressive and stickier (Kumhos perhaps).

4) Speaker whine sounds like a bad ground somewhere. If it goes away with a click after a bit after start-up, does that coincide with the ACC being activated? Just a guess as a place to start looking.

5) Yes, the CS is wired for the trunk-mounted CD player. Look under the carpet over the left rear wheel arch. Should have a DIN plug and be a black cable about the dia. of CAT5 LAN cable.

6) Due to many of the posts concerning the gearbox oil requirements, I stuck with the manual and went with Castrol 10w/40. Seems to work OK with about 162K kms on the car.
