I had the same problem on my '90 9K CDT. I thought about cleaning the switch as was mentioned in another post, but never got to it. Instead, I noticed that the rear of the sunroof was misaligned. It was actually about 1/8 to 1/4 inch below the surface of the roof. I had no idea why. I had bought the car used and didn't know the history. So I wanted to fix it for aesthetic reasons. I figured out that the four screws (2 each side) visible when the sunroof is tilted open allow adjustment of the rear of the panel. Once I got the sunroof aligned better, it stopped at all the right places. The correct position for my car actually has the back of the sunroof stick up past the rest of the roof about 1/32 - 1/16 of an inch. Thye roof is also a lot quieter at speed now. Previously it had a lot of wind noise. Hope this helps.
