I used the center lap belt in my '95. Did not have to worry about clips, and could keep an eye on my son by flipping the rear view mirror.
Brittax is very good, Century too. I suggest asking around to see if you can borrow/buy one from a friend who's child has just graduated to the next level. They may want to hold on to the seat for the next child, but may not mind loaning for the light use you will be experiencing.
Instructions on securing the seat are most important. Read somewhere that over 75% of car seats are incorrectly installed. A real false sense of security, and you would never forgive yourself. So study the manual, then take it to a dealer or perhaps to a progressive fire department to get the fit checked out. Worth getting this right. We know the car will protect if the kid is strapped in right!
Have Fun!!!
