Bill,
On Friday last I had to get hold of a set of tyres quick before a dash up to Manchester. My Toyos, purchased on 20/3/01, and < 9000miles old were seriously, dangerously bald. Fantastic tyres, and stand comparison at least with the old Bridgestone SO-2s - superb progressive breakaway, outstanding wet weather grip, and £99 all in a corner. Ok, so bad planning on my part meant I didn't have time to shop around, but I have ended up with 4 Pirelli P6000s, with the big groove all around the middle. I got a buy one, get one half price routine, but they were still about the same price as your bridgestones. Bugger - wish I had thought this through.
PS: Done 400 miles this weekend, in iffy weather, and I am impressed with the Pirellis so far - very quiet, good wet traction, not pushed too hard yet, though.
PPS: My geometry was spot on in March. On Friday, I was toeing in 7mm - blimey, must of clonked a speed ramp pretty hard. No wonder the outside of my Toyos were bald. Sounds like Saab geometry is fragile, though I may be wrong.
PPPS: The guys on the Scooby BBS always said that the SO-2s in 16" size always took a couple of thousand miles to bed in, improving all the time, so sounds like you may have even better to come.
I am envious.
