SAAB of Santa Monica is an exclusive SAAB dealer. They do provide loaners and are very generous with this policy.

I live in Los Angeles, just east of Beverly Hills.

At one time I had a 88 900 SPG and used to take it to Swedish Pro-Tech in Hawthorne/Lawndale. It was a 5-spd and started making a grinding sound whenever I would go to put it in reverse. I thought it might be the clutch, because when I bought by 93 convertible, it was doing the same thing. The dealer in Culver City (now out of business) said it was the clutch, so I had them replace it. The problem went away. Well, when I took in my SPG to Swedish Pro-Tech the guy said it was not the clutch and was the transmission. He said he needed to drop the transmission and rebuild the reverse gear. Naturally this was going to be very expensive and more than the car was worth. I think he said something well over $2000. So I decided to get a second opinion.

At that time SAAB of Santa Monica just opened with many of the same people from the Culver City dealer. I showed them the problem and they said that it definitely was not the transmission and might be the clutch or the clutch linkage. So, I left the car with them to service. It turns out that it was only the clutch linkage which needed adjusting and only cost me no more than $200 or so. Plus I think they may have given me a loaner car. I have been a loyal customer ever since.

So, the moral of the story is find a good dealer who you trust. They will offer better service with genuine SAAB parts and possibly a loaner.
