I'm no gym rat, but I am 6'2" 200# and I find my 9000 very comfortable and roomy, particularly for the upper body. Lots of shoulder and elbow room. The one thing it lacks is head room, but that is a function of seat adjustment as much as anything, and it's not as though I rub the headliner with my hair; I'd just like another inch.
The 9000 is one of the few cars in recent times to be classified as a "full size" car by the Feds. It's a very roomy car, much more so than a 900.

As far as the "best" year for an Aero, I think the old used car maxim applies here as well as anywhere - buy the nicest, newest one your price limit will allow. Also note that the '97-98 CSE models had the same engine as Aeros of that time frame, just different seats and suspension details. As a big guy, you may want to try the Aero vs. regular 9k seats for comfort. I don't like as much shoulder support so am not as big a fan of the Aero seats as most. Finally, you should probably look '95 and newer - the <94 cars didn't have tilt/telescoping steering, and I have a few issues with leg to steering wheel clearance on my '94 CSE.

Try one - you will like it.
