Your mileage is low enough that I would not expect anything steering/suspension related to be failing. If you're sure it's not the wheel bearing then my best guess is that the rack is on the way out. It will often make a noise in one direction but not the other. I'd flush the fluid out first. I just use a turkey baster to suck the old stuff out and then put new stuff in and repeat a couple of times, but you can also disconnect the return hose as per Quasi's site for a more thorough job. Some folks, including myself, prefer Valvoline's partially sythetic formula to others. It's available at Walmart, etc. I think your year also has a filter that you might want to attend to. If this doesn't make a diference and there's no change in steering feel I'd just leave things alone. Even if the rack starts getting stiff in the morning there are still no saftey concerns. Let us know how it goes!
