Given normal physical strength, a hard push on the brake pedal will lock up your wheels. Bigger brakes would make this happen faster. And, locking up wheels is not braking. If, however, you find that you have to push really hard to slow down from speed on a steeply descending road, for example, then perhaps your pads are glazed, or contaminated, or are of poor quality, or maybe there is a vacuum leak that degrades the power assist. I am assuming that you do not want the kind of brake feel that Detroit products had at least into the eighties, where a "feather touch" (TM) might lock the wheels. Even my elderly mother doesn't want that. If all your systems are OK, but you still want to shorten stopping distance, then you should first look at tires.
