should not be relevant as this pressure can be modified by the hydraulic system components. It is more the energy that can be dissapated by the pads, their clamping force and square area, vs. the energy that can be dissapated by the tires and their contact patch and the amount of weight on them. There sure are a lot of variables here. Are the brake rotors polished or burnished? Are the tires R1 compound or DOT 550 Touring? Skinny tires or fat? (Contact patch on a skinny tire would be better as long as the braking occurs in a straight line.)
I remember reading debates about ABS vs "Lock to Stop" in the car mags, and ABS doesn't always provide the shortest stopping distance. I believe the reason behind teaching about threshold braking in Driver Ed is that you loose directional control when the tires lock up. But I'm only an amateur physicist as it pertains to racing, so JM2C worth. PLease post some of the results of this experiment! Good Luck!
