... it's quite possible. The engine rebuild looks like the most detailed part of the manual. I think Haynes just aren't very good with electrics/electronics. Get a Haynes manual and have a look for yourself. A 9000 Turbo engine is just an engine...
I used to do this sort of thing for fun when I owned Minis. It would still be fun if I had alternative transport and somewhere decent to work, but for the moment (fingers crossed) my engine appears to be working fine.
