I went through this ordeal with my '91 9KT, and my only problem was with the plastic connectors that attach to the bulb. After about a year, they'll melt the plastic sufficiently to require replacement, which was a hassle. Undaunted, I started using quick-connects for each of the wires so I could replace the connectors more quickly. The connectors can be purchased at most auto-parts stores, and I would simply add the appropriate quick-connect and the attach to the harness on the car. The problem with this is that if the wrong contact becomes dysfunctional from the melting process, you may find yourself without headlights like I did on one occasion about 20 miles from home. I had to hitch a ride and pick the car up the next day. High-output lights are great, but no-output is a bummer.
If you're replacing the existing wiring and connectors, you should have no trouble with anything else. I didn't, anyway. Other than going this route, I wouldn't advise installing the high-output bulbs with the stock wiring components.
