The buzz is most likely cavitation at the oil pump or a heavy mix of air in oil. You are right about the o-ring, there may be 2, on the 2.3 there are 2. An air leak on the suction side of the pump could cause slow priming of the pump and low oil pressure. Also, I would want to look at the oil pick up screen in the pan, if the screen is plugged it can cause low oil pressure. A plugged screen can cause additional stress on the suction o-ring(s) and may lead to their failure. Replacing the o-rings is a good idea since they harden with age.
If the oil pump is badly worn it can cause slow pressure build up and low pressure. At one time there was some issue about oil pump drive tang wear and breakage. On occasion drive keys have failed although key failure may occur due to something getting into the pump, pump failure, or other machanical overload. If any of these occured most likely there would be no oil pressre.
After the engine has idled a while (longer than 10 minutes) have you looked at the oil on the dip stick, if the oil looks aerated (milky and full of small bubbles)it could very likely be an air leak in the suction side of the oil pump. Aerated oil can look like of a cup of coffee with a fair amount of cream in it.
