I really don't think timing chains are that big a problem. Maybe I've been just lucky, but I've never had a timing chain problem in any of the 7 timing-chain-equipped Saabs I or my immediate family have owned. And each of them had over 100K miles.
I could see a 'secret warrantee' if timing chains breaking prematurely was a problem. Saab handled a similar problem that way with the early V6 timing belt - they would replace the belt 'under warrantee' every 30K miles up to 90K. But the chains run pretty well. Yes, if one breaks it's bad news in a big way, but it just isn't that common.
