Happy New Year to All Saabers! I was hoping that a little bit of TLC before the New Year’s Eve would help my sweet ’90 9k CD turbo, but the saga continues and I must ask for your collective wisdom… again.

The car starts easily and idles ok on all four cylinders (after it stalls the first 2-3 times when cold), but then when I press the accelerator it seems to have no gas to burn and definitely has no power, it just sort of chugs along at 1k-1.5k RPM. The dreaded ‘check engine’ light comes on, but it does not stall. When I aggressively pump the accelerator it doesn’t seem to help much, although it will pick up on speed slightly in a kind of stifled way. The symptoms seem to go away completely after I disconnect the battery, presumably because the zeroed ECU is not trying to compensate for something faulty that has eluded me so far.

Here is what I did already:
1/ Checked vacuum hoses including the charcoal canister – no leaks
2/ Checked DI cassette for leaks (looks ok, was changed < 2 years ago)
Just in case – I replaced plugs to NGK BPR7ES properly gapped.
3/ Visually inspected the AMM – wires in place, looks ok.
4/ Changed fuel filter (WIX - supposedly one of the better ones)

All along, I thought that it was the fuel system because I have not driven it for 2 months and left it with nearly empty gas tank. But since it works great after zeroing ECU (full power for about 4 blocks…) and the new filter made little difference -- I don’t think it is the fuel. I should also mention the car was at a body shop with some front-end repair work performed just before everything went really bad, but I don’t think that that has had anything to do with it as the ‘check engine’ light was beginning to flash on the way to the shop. I would so appreciate some ideas! stef
