Cars are sold at the auctions for a wide variety of reasons. Sometimes they can be distressed merchandise but just as often they are perfectly good cars. A lot of dealers have a policy that if the car is on the lot more than 90 days it goes to the auction. Other times it's simply a matter of the car being wrong for the dealership. A Chevy dealers' used car operation probably doesn't have a lot of people coming in looking for high line European cars, their mechanics don't know how to work on them, so off it goes to the auction. Peoples lives can change drastically in two or three years, and while the Saab might have been just the thing, suddenly they get transferred to the Yukon and need a Suburban. As for independants, they can run the gamet, but the car you describe sounds like a "creampuff" so he (or she) probably paid top buck to get a good car--which is a good indication of his approach to the business. Don't worry, be happy, BUY IT!
