For what it is worth but somewhat related; when we were racing a SAAB 99 in the ITB class of SCCA regional racing we ran Yokohama A008s. Since this was our first experience at racing on "street" rubber, we set up the car with 38 psi all around. What we found when we checked tread temperatures were elevated (+200F) temps that were inconsistent across the tread indicating that the tire was sliding across the track instead of providing grip. After talking to the Yoko. rep, he suggested lowering the pressure until we saw consistent temps across the tread in the 180F range. We found the same high temp characteristics when we dropped pressures below about 30 psi. Eventually we found what we were after in the 32-36 psi range, the setting used somewhat dependent on track surface and air temp. We also tried Bridgestones and found the same thing occurring. Tire design dictates that for decent handling there is an ideal pressure range that allows the sidewalls to flex the proper amount to keep the tread spread evenly on the road and to allow it to provide the amount of grip that it is capable of. I've always used something in that 32-34 range on all my street cars, both with stock and with prepped suspensions, and have had decent results, decent and even wear, reasonable grip and ride.
