Hello everyone,
Like most large audio companies (ahem...Bose), HK alters peoples perception of sound quality through marketing.
They take a midrange and tweeter, mount them separately, and call that "two" speakers. This is where the "10 speaker" figure comes from. This is not to say that the HK system doesn't sound good, its just not really 10 speakers, its 10 "drivers."
Also, what they call a "subwoofer" is actually just the regular 6x9 stock woofers equalized and (possibly) amplified separately from the midrange/treble speakers. This is why you can turn down the "bass" control on an HK system and still have so much bass. What you are doing is reducing the overall midbass level without eliminating the deep bass, which is an excellent way to increase the clarity of any speaker system.
With the 6x9s being loaded into the trunk as they are, they will produce quite a lot of usefull mid/upper bass and some low bass, but this can always be improved for all of the reasons that I already stated in my previous post.
Better to leave the 6x9s to the upper bass/midrange/treble, where the amount of power being fed to them by the stock system is more than sufficient.
A true subwoofer (which literally means "below the woofer") is a speaker that produces ONLY LOW BASS, meaning the last octave (20-40hz). Your ear is not capable of hearing these frequencies, you can only "feel" them (under you ass or in your chest or whatever) Any speaker that is doing anything else and calls itself a subwoofer, isn't actually a subwoofer; most speakers that are called subwoofers actually are woofers. DON'T BE FOOLED!
