The rears in my '87 are a 6.5" component setup (fronts are component also - ie separate woofer and tweeter, though coaxials work fine too). However, the 6.5" in my car are a standard size for a 'home' 6.5" woofer, as you'd find a home stereo speaker. Many 6.5" coaxials/separates designed for car use, are smaller, both in overall diameter and hole cutout. Crutchfield calls the larger size a 6.5"S or 6 3/4", I believe. Anyhoo..

There are a LOT of good speaker manufacturers out there. I tend to prefer the European brands for best value/performance ratio. These include Peerless, Vifa, Seas, and Audax. Since you don't buy them at retail, you won't be paying for the 100% markup retailers often put on speakers. So, for the same price you get twice the speaker, or half price the same speaker, etc.. :)

The brands I mentioned for the most part have a limited/nonexistant selection of coaxials, however, so you'd need to buy/make a crossover for them, which can be as simple as a single capacitor, if you don't make one more complex than the stock crossover. With the right drivers, this actually can be reasonably good.

For easiest drop in, go to Crutchfield's web site, they have a very large selection and often some great deals.

Some key items to look for:

Rubber surround on the woofers, a woofer cone other than plain paper (polypropylene, fiberlass, graphite, kevlar, to name just a few), and a soft dome tweeter. My preference on the tweeter...some may prefer a metal dome. Generally speaking a dome will be superior to a cone tweeter.

Good luck, speaker shopping is always fun! :)
