... and yes, well into, and often beyond red on the guage. Car never boosts below a third to a half red, only perhaps on really hot and dry days. Oh, and the car is absolutely standard.
The fluctuating boost sensation is not from boost cut, it's a relaxed lunging sensation as the car accelerates hard, then accelerates less hard, then hard again as if the car is detecting too much boost / det, backing off, reapplying boost etc etc etc.
Boost cut is foot flat to the floor, violent jolt as needle moves off end of guage.
I maybe wrong, but I figure it is something to do with the engine not adapting effectively enough to the 98.6 RON fuel we now have in the UK - is there a discrepancy between how far the engine has advanced its own ignition, and the boost limit it has set itself? Optimax is 98.6 RON average, so potentially higher. The book says run Aeros on 98 RON (in UK). I wonder if that is an arbitrary upper limit, beyond which extra RON may cause a problem (and hence ignition timing)? I doubt it somehow.
Put it this way - it never did this on 95 RON.
Thanks for your input - any other ideas?
