Transporting windshields Posted by Larry West [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Hi all, I'm new!, trama ![]() |
Last time I got a 99 windshield out of a junkyard, I cut the gasket as Gary said, and when I transported it, I rigged up a cardboard box to support the windshield effectively vertically. If you've ever seen a windshield repair truck, that's how they transport them.
Take a large, sturdy box, and cut a slot vertically down opposite sides. You must make two cuts for each slot, about 1/4 " apart for the windshield to fit. Slide the windshield down inside it, use tape to pull the sides together at the top. So long as nothing is in contact with it, or can come into contact with it, this should get it home.
What you don't want to do is move it lying on the outer surface, or on the "A" pillar sides, or even the bottom rim.
As for shipping one... I don't know how I'd do that!
