If it was me, I'd never want pull the plug ever again. Everytime from now on out when you change your oil, you risk making the hole larger and larger. Agreed?
14mm is smaller than 9/16" (0.5511 compared to 0.5625), so that would be the one to try first.....5/8" is 0.625" which seems way too big to even get threads started.
I'd look into replacing it with a oil drain valve, and you'll never have to unthread it again. Maybe clean the hole real good with some brake clean, dry it, clean it again, let it dry real good, then epoxy a drain valve in place. Let the epoxy dry over night before re-filling with oil. The two part epoxies which come in a tube may work the best and be the consistency you need to make a good seal. Oil free at the sealing point most critical.
Another option...pull the engine and trans, separate the engine from the trans, take the trans to a welding shop and have them weld new metal around the hole, then re-tap with new threads.
I'd try the oil drain valve first. :)
