Black/dark headliners

I'm in the middle of restoring a '79 99 GL. When I got it a few months back it had been standing for the last 13 years. As a result of this it smells like an old modly basement. I rented a carpet cleaner and cleand the seats. I threw the old carpets away, and now I want to replace the headliner. I've always wanted to try a black headliner, so I went to a local auto parts store and asked for black headliner material. They didn't have any, and whats more, they strongly advised me against using any black or dark colored material for the headliner. They said it would feel oppressing and that I wouldn't like it.
Now I know that some of you have gone for black or dark colored headliners, and I couldn't find no posts describing regrets to have gone for the dark material. Yet want to be sure so I'd realy like to hear your opinion. Do you like or dislike your black or dark colored headliner?
