This question is in reference to a c900 manual steering rack, but I figured you guys had more experience with this type of endeavor...are inner tie rods still available for the 99 steering racks?,If not,how do ya'll go about refurbishing?
The inner tie rods for my c900 man. rack are NLA,I've got a bead on a set from a shop in Finland(possibly,I think they've got the wrong part#,but they say they are man.,at 115 euros each,I'm afraid to buy 'em & be the wrong part#!),so I began searching for alternative fixes.
I have a 79 900 EMS rack which is 3.5 TLL,"normal" man. rack is 4.2TLL,pwr. racks are 3.6TLL--I thought possibly I could use a pwr. rackbar inside the man. housing & that'd enable me to use late style inner tie rods, but the rackbar "gearteeth" are much too small compared to the man. "gearteeth"...I was thinking of trying to find a steering specialist who could possibly remachine the pwr. rackbar to man. specs...if anybody knows of or has used a shop who has the ability to do this, please lemme know!!!
At the moment,my new line of attack is modification of late style inner tie rods via drill & tap,but I'm unsure if there will be enough surface area to get a "good bite" after I drill & tap...I have some old late-style tie rods I'll be "experimenting" on t-morrow...if this works I'll be happy as a buzzing bumblebee!
Any comments or suggestions/tips?
thanx fer readin'!
styrled inre på nej-servo det är raritet!
