I cleaned the mud flaps with paint thinner and used a Nissen feltip paint marker.
The piece that goes around the rear tail lights is actually supposed to be chrome-looking plastic. Unfortunately they are not easy to find, but I did just find some NOS ones on ebay a few months ago out of Denmark. I've never tried re-painting them, so I can't be of much help.
Go to the TSN classifieds and look for Lenny Casper's ad. He has some lenses for sale as he told me so a few days ago. Maybe he has two good chrome rings for sale. Click on the link.
