I have the single pulley and put the single on Rowan's car. I used the toughest belt I could find for both. A V belt is usually fairly tight...but no tighter than necessary; like on the early 900s and 99s through all the years. Like on the V4 models...like on almost every early eighties car and earlier. The double is a given improvement. Added safety, less stress, etc. I have seen two go quickly together as when one decided to give out on my '85 900T, the second went out about 20 miles later. added stress coupled with having the same age as the first. I guess the 20 miles was still 20 more than I would have had without the double. All that being said, after a year and a half on my 16V single pulley 99, the belt started to slip. (granted, only after getting the car back from the body shop and only after a 2700 mile trip) I bought a new belt telling myself that I would change it out as soon as I had time. My 9000 needed work and my extra time was devoted to that. The day before finishing the 9000, my wife was driving the 99 and then called to tell me the alt light was on. The belt had snapped..cleanly to boot. I replace the belt with a flashlight and a pair of pliers. Not much room there but doable. Yours would be easier Rowan, as I believe we gave you more room. I don't know how gregg C. avoided the vacuum booster area or if he modified like I did with your car, so maybe his alt. placement is different. Some put it much higher on the engine, fabricating new mounts...makes sense that the tension would be different in that case. Keep a replacement belt in your car and if it starts to squeak, replace it before too long. I'm going to make it a yearly thing. No sense saving 10 bucks to see just how long a belt will last.
