LJB, Have we ever gone through the same thing! The bulletin shows the proper shimming of the compressor as well as alignment and tightening sequence. The proper shimming with the correct thickness washers transfers the vibration evenly and puts less stress on the bolts. It helps. I went the stud route as well. That coupled with a large fender washer delivers more holding power without adding stress on the aluminum threads on the head. That is the weak link. That's why picking up the next one over helps. The spring theory would strip out those threads in no time because it would increase stress there. Adding the second bolt with the lip should cure it by transfering, yet sharing the load. That '78 version is what I used, but the main bracket needs to be modified to fit the early 2.0 on the shorter (or outer) lower rear mount. The design on the early 1.85 mount is actually quite nicer, much beefier, and shows design intelligence. By the way, it is the compressor itself that is causing so much stress. If we were to adapt say the C900 compressor in it's place, it wouldn't be an issue. As I'm sure you know, that stuff stinks. Down the road I plan on adapting a Chrysler 2.2 compressor and mount if my York dies. If your familiar with that settup, it will fit right on top of that large flat York base with very little work. The Chrysler Idler unit could also be worked in easily to replace the lemon we've been talking about. I'm actually looking for an Early Nash/AMC flathead 6 York mount to do the same thing for another car. Anybody got a source?
