a solid '79 99 gl was given to me and I finally started on it today. The car has sat for 18 years and so I was expecting a boat load of junk in the tank. When I drained the fuel tank, there was no dirt at all, but it smelled really weird and it is very sticky. The tank might be ok, but all that stickyness in the fuel system might be a big problem. has anyone gone through this before? How likely will it be for me to get the car running again by only replacing the filter and pump and then putting fresh fuel in the tank? Or will much more work be needed?
