Putting in an APC system would probably be a good idea either way. They are self contained. The only difficult part would be installing the knock sensor. Maybe john can reveal what he did for that little obstacle as I've never done it on a B-motor. The 99 turbos were/are a blast but they are lag-o-matics. Under 2500RPMs they felt like led balloons...then they'd go like a rocket. The lower compression attempted to save the engine but was a major cause of lag. It was a bigger turbo than the later 900 versions as well, which required the lower compression. I drive a 9916Vt with the 2.1L non-turbo engine with 10.1:1 compression. I have yet to install APC as I've been distanced from my parts collection and haven't had the time to deal with it. I run high octane fuel and have a better fuel delivery system with larger injectors and a tuned ECU. I am careful with the car so as to avoid knocking but I'm sure it is still happening (you can't always hear it). It has last about 30,000 miles or so in this state (actually 20,000 was without the fuel upgrades) and though it never ran right before, it never blew up either.
