The 75 and later transmissions had a larger ring and pinion, and they had bearings supporting the drivers, so the transmissions were wider at the out drives....74 and earlier half shafts are too long to work. As far as I recall, tripod bearings were the same all the way up to the late 80's 900's.

If you use 900 driveshafts and hubs, you'll also have to change the brake calipers(girling), brake lines(SAE and metric don't mix), and ebrake cables(if you so desire an emergency brake).... At least caliper kits are readily available for the girling calipers.

Later style slave cylinders also used a different line than the earlier ones, so it might require a compression fitting to splice a new end onto your existing one.

If you'd just rather drop in a 74 and earlier tranny, I know I have a few of them here.(Lorain, OH)
