Thanks for the offer Doug, and nice blue color on your EMS! Is that an Ansa exhaust / tips?

Have you actually measured the case width of the early vs. late cases? I have three apart here, my '73, a '78, and an '82 box that all measure 175mm between the mounting surfaces for the bolt-on differential bearing housings / driver housings. The width difference looks to me like it is in the bearing housings, the earlier ones are narrower, and the early driver tulip stubs are shorter and a different spline.

The early (smaller) female splined diff spider gears fit right into a later ('82) diff, but then the bearing supports are too long to accomodate the early driver stubs.

What I am going to try to set up right now is swapping the ring gear out of my '78 4-speed (that's going in), and bolting it to the '73 diff so the ring and pinion stay matched, then using the '73 diff bearing carriers and '73 inner tripod stubs. I will report back in a few hours when I find out if this will work or not, it mocked up fine in the empty '82 case and 9 tooth pinion I had, both had the same pitch 35 tooth ring gear, and both are 176mm dia. The diff support bearings seem to tension fine.

To re-iterate, I am trying to do it this way so I don't have to buy 900 halfshafts, hubs, uprights, calipers, etc. right now. I will probably do this eventually, but don't have the money right now, and I think I mentioned the rest of the parts I currently have are in great shape, the rotors look like they were nearly new when the car was parked.

I'll pu tup a link to pictures when I get them uploaded.

Best,
Drew
