A very typical failure mode of the non-lambda (1975-1977 versions) is that the "steel gasket" (actually the diaphragms for the 4 injector port pressure regulators) was made of mild steel, and moisture in the fuel system often causes a hole to rust in the diaphragm, resulting in fuel flowing to one of the injectors even when the plunger is in the fully closed position - the hole in the diaphragm allows fuel to flow to the injector. I just had this exact problem on my 1977 99 EMS, and I recall my father having it on his 1976 99 GL back in 1980!
Even if you can take apart and successfully reassemble the Fuel Distributor, I don't think you can fix this problem without replacing the Fuel Distributor. 1978 and later distributors used a stainless steel diaphragm which was considerably more resistant to internal corrosion.
I had intended to see if I could swap a later diaphragm (stainless) into an earlier (non-lambda) distributor, but I was unsuccessful at taking apart a lambda distributor and I sort of forgot about that project once I found a good working non-lambda distributor.
