I think what you will find is that when people have a common interest in an uncommon car they tend to stick together more than the car folks who can pick up a catalog and order every single item you would need to restore or upgrade the vehicle. Also, I think you will find that most of us who are not 18 anymore started with an interest in Saabs exactly as you have and at about the same age. When I was 16 (in 1973) my first car was a 1952 Kaiser and my second car was a 1968 Saab 96 V4, both brought on by my older brother who was into every orphan car make there ever was (Studebaker, Packard, Hudson) and I learned from him, my father, other Saab owners and a whole lot of "let's see what happens when we do this" when working on my 96. As far as I remember, the only part of any of my Saabs I have ever owned that got the best of me was trying to rebuild the transmission. Now at 46 I currently own a 1973 V4 96 that is just about stripped all the way down and ready for rusty floor repair before I start back up with it for a complete rebuild.
By the way, has anyone else my age noticed that the 96s seem to have gotten smaller inside than they were when we were 18?
