you might think I'm nuts, but the easiest way to do this is to stretch the boot over the inner T, take the bearing cups off first....and you really should replace the inner boots at this time.
yes, you can separate the outer joint from the shaft, but getting it back together will be a challenge, even if you have the magical saab tool, the spring clip is just a bear to compress while you are slipping it all back together.
I've stretched new boots over the T many many times, haven't ripped one yet, it's quite amazing.
