Just one more windshield question!

Started my windshield installation last night. The gaskets that came out are in good shape - no rot, still pliable, so I was planning to reuse them. However I discovered the front one had shrunk in length about +1". I can stretch it to fit, but it won't stay. Anyone had any luck with stretching them? Or offer hints on installation to overcome this? The aluminum locking strips didn't hold it place since they both run out in the middle.
