I pulled the lower control arm, as spiv suggested, and eased the inner U-joint out of the cup for inspection. One of the bearing caps was very worn with one side ovaled out. The other cap also showed wear but not as bad. I rotated the worn cap so the better side faced into the cup, added some fresh grease and reassembled. The road test revealed the extreme vibration had gone away. I'm sure the relief is temporary as some loud clunks are evident some when engaging gears. Any ideas where relacement parts can be found or someone who really rebuilds these old axles?
