So I finally got the things unstuck. WOW. Thanks for all the advice. It took me awhile mostly because I had to find all the right tools. I tried a little heat and some Marvel Mystery oil, and that did nothing. I was afraid to just weld a nut on when I still had a square head to work with because the metalurgy would change abit and I would likely end up just shearing the bolt in the middle due to a stress concentration. So, I measured the square faces with my dial calipers and looked for a proper wrench and found it on http://www.mcmaster.com part number: 5532A32 for $16.09. It is a 90 degree bend black finished 5/16in square box wrench. I use McMaster Carr on lots of engineering projects and it's a great resource for other things too. It seems to be pretty much the right tool for the job, although with a little more searching of the site you could probably find a stronger square drive socket. It's definitely better than just whatever the local Sears is stocking. Then I bought some PB blaster penetrationg oil (I looked for Kroil as recommended and I couldn't find it anywhere). I'm sure there's better oil, but it did the trick. I sprayed it on both sides of the bolts with the backing plates removed and on my bench. Then I filled a little pool of it around the threads and let them sit for an hour or two. I cleaned out the oil, clamped them in my big bench vise and put the wrench on with about 4ft of cheater bars attached to the little wrench and with a grunt and some metallic groaning, the bolt came free! Then I tightened it all the way in and out of the plate as recommended and I cleaned the threads with a scribe, a wire brush, and some degreaser. I cleaned the internal threads with a wire brush too, and then I put it back together with some high temp permetex anti-sieze lubricant--the kind used on exhaust manifold bolts, etc.. Then I did the other one and it was even easier. Thanks for all your help! Happy SAAbing. -Brendan
