If only the handle broke off of the hood release cable you may be able to grab the stub of the wire with pliars and pull it enough to pop the hood. Next best thing might be a long screwdriver inserted through the grill to push the latch enough to let it pop. Beyond that it means taking the grill apart to reach in.
As to one wheel turning faster than the other - this should be normal with a differential. You actually should be able to stop one wheel completely with the other one spinning (but I would not try this) which is why you can get stuck in snow or mud when one wheel loses traction. What exactly do you mean by the "reverse lock"?
