People have the mistaken idea that vapor lock can occur while there is fuel running through the fuel pump. The fuel coming in from the tank is cool and will not vapor lock in the short time it it traveling through the engine compartment.
Check your ignition coil (could be breaking down when it gets hot) and points/Pertronix (whatever you're using).
There is one rule when working through problems on a car engine ... _always_ start by checking the mechanical condition of the engine (a compression test will tellyou a lot), _then_ check ignition, and _only_ after checking those two things should you go for the fuel system. I've seen so many times when someone tried to make their car run better by screwing around with the carb, only to make it worse, but after the _real_ problem was fixed, the messed up carb took a while to sort out.
