That makes sense. You want to use your freewheel gently, which means to ease on the gas and let it engage without a jerk. My 16 year old son has been driving my '68 96 which has a functional freewheel, in preparation for getting his license. I'm teaching him to pause and sloohttp://wwwlly apply the gas after shifting, and smoothly accelerate. Once the freewheel engages, he's then free to hammer it! Locking out the freewheel by pulling the level out will eliminate that slow transition- no more eggshells!
